On September 21, 2011, the Board of Directors of the Fort Wayne Community Schools Foundation announced its reconstitution and reinvigoration as a fundraising organization in support of FWCS academic programs. The FWCS Foundation has been in place for many years but has never been used actively to solicit financial support for the district. The Foundation is legally separate from FWCS and is recognized by the IRS as exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
Financial support through the FWCS Foundation is important because of continued funding challenges. FWCS is making great progress in improving academic achievement, and the Foundation Board wants to ensure it is adequately funded going forward to continue its success. Funds raised will be used to support the district's educational programs that are working and to invest in innovative programs that will further increase academic results.
