Irwin Elementary families are invited to visit McDonald’s at State and Coliseum for McTeacher Night. A portion of the proceeds from the evenings sales are donated back to Irwin.

South Wayne Elementary students in grades 1-5 will participate in Learn-to-Swim program at the Helen P. Brown Natatorium at 9:30 a.m. Students will attend a 45-minute lesson each week from Sept. 23-Oct. 21.

Students in grades 1-3 will participate in Project READS, a literacy tutoring program that pairs students 1:1 with trained volunteers to help them improve their reading and writing skills. They will meet every Tuesday in the Media Center from 3-4 p.m. This will take place from Sept. 23 through the end of April.

Shambaugh students and staff will have their smiles on for fall picture day on Sept. 24.

Shambaugh Elementary parents and staff members are invited to bring their ideas to the PTA meeting in the staff lounge at 3:30 p.m.

Whitney Young Early Childhood Center kindergarten students will travel to the Helen P. Brown Natatorium at 9 a.m. each Thursday for six weeks. Students will learn water safety and how to swim.

Shambaugh Elementary PTA will host a Family Night at Crazy Pinz, 1414 Northland Blvd., from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Students, families and staff are invited to come out for an evening of fun.

South Wayne Elementary families are invited to the school at 6 p.m. for a night of games and fun. Game Night includes learning and playing a variety of games and understanding the importance of playing games all while having fun.

Shambaugh Elementary will have Popcorn and Spirit Day on Sept. 27. Students and staff and encouraged to wear Shambaugh shirts and enjoy a fresh bag of popcorn.

Harris special education students will visit Advanced Tree Technology Apple Orchard at 9:45 a.m. to tour the orchard and pick apples. The students will be allowed to pick 4 apples and a mini pumpkin or gourd to take home.

Whitney Young Early Childhood Center will have a school wide Day of Coding event starting at 8:30 a.m. Students will have the opportunity to explore a variety of technology in this hands-on learning event.

The Friends of Allen County Public Library is sponsoring a visit by E. Lockhart, author of “We Were Liars.” She will present to Snider High School students at 1:30 p.m. on techniques for creating compelling narratives and how everyday emotion can be translated into powerful poetry, fiction, song lyrics, comic strips or film. She touches on her recent novels, but the focus is on giving students tools for making narrative art.

Indian Village students will participate in JA in a DAY  learning about various job skills and financial matters.

Harris Elementary Special Education students will visit Kurtz Pumpkin Patch at 10 a.m. to learn about the different types of pumpkins and their growing cycle.

Weisser Park Elementary will host Focus On Health, sponsored by Parkview Health. From 8:45 a.m.-noon, there will be health stations set up in the gym, and there will be 20-minute Hazards in the Home station by the Fort Wayne Fire Department.
