Irwin Elementary third-graders will visit Safety Village at 9:15 a.m. for the Survive Alive presentation.

Irwin Elementary is collecting new and used wearable shoes for the Angel Bins Shoe Drive March 18-29. Irwin will collect matching pairs of shoes that are still be in wearable condition. Shoes can be sent in with students or dropped off at the school office between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Harris Elementary fourth-grade students will touring History Center at 9:15 a.m. to learn about the history of Northeast Indiana and Fort Wayne. Students will tour the museum and participate in a treasure hunt involving the displays. Following the tour of the History Center, students will visit the Allen County Courthouse for a tour of the historic structure.

Dr. Michelle Drouin of Purdue Fort Wayne will talk to students during the day about appropriate and inappropriate use of technology. Parents are welcome to attend a presentation at 7 p.m. in the Snider auditorium on the same topic. Dr. Drouin focuses on some of the harm that can come from inappropriate use of technology while providing families with the tools they need to use technology in a healthy way. She provides practical advice focusing on the “Golden Rules for Digital Parenting" and the recent guidelines provided by the American Academy of Pediatrics. Parents and educators will leave this talk with a greater understanding of the potential perils (and benefits) of children’s technology use and be armed with immediately-implementable strategies to help demystify parenting in the digital age. Abbett Elementary invites all students and their families to a sports-themed math event from 6-7:30 p.m. Students and their families are encouraged to wear their favorite jersey and play sports-themed math games. All who attend will receive a book and math take-home activities. Light refreshments will be served.

The Shambaugh Elementary PTA meets at 6 p.m. in the staff lounge.

Students from throughout the District will attend the Fort Wayne Philharmonic Young People’s Concert at 10 a.m. Students have prepared for the concert by listening to music and singing.

Harris Elementary fifth-grade students will travel to the Embassy Theatre at 9:30 a.m. to attend a performance of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic.

Shambaugh Elementary students and staff will show their school spirit by wearing Shambaugh shirts and enjoying popcorn for Shambaugh’s Popcorn and Spirit Day.

Harris Elementary Special Education students will go bowling at 9:45 a.m. Some students will bowl at Georgetown Entertainment with others bowling at Crazy Pins Bowling.

Memorial Park Middle School sixth-graders will learn what it is like to live on as little as $1 per day. Special guest speaker David Radcliff will discuss poverty in a presentation at 7:30 a.m. He will specifically focus on how people around the world survive on as little as $3 per day, and some on as little as $1 per day.

The Haley Elementary PTA will meet at 3:30 p.m.

Officer Phil will visit Irwin Elementary at 1 p.m. to talk with students about stranger danger and ways to keep themselves safe.

Haley Elementary School is having a fundraiser to support students and families in need. Proceeds from this event will support purchasing items such as clothing, food and household needs, as well as promoting positive behavior in our school. The event is open to the community from 3-9 p.m. at Chuck E. Cheese. Simply mention Haley Elementary School and 20% of the proceeds will come back to Haley to support our students.

Irwin Elementary third-graders will visit the Hanson Rock Quarry from 9:15-10:45 a.m.

Irwin Elementary fourth-graders will visit Indianapolis Motor Speedway to learn about the science of an Indy car. Students will leave from the school at 7:30 a.m.

Harris second-grade students will visit the Fort Wayne Museum of Art at 9:30 a.m. to observe various art exhibits to expand their understanding of art history.
